A Visit to a Girl's Hostel with Intellectual Disability

A Visit to a Girl's Hostel with Intellectual Disability

The team of Awareness Voluntary Organization visited a girl's hostel with Intellectual Disability; the hostel is run by self-help basis & Donations & In Kind Donation from the people of the surrounding locality, a unique example of Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Concept.

The visit was unannounced and the team members observed the girls were well looked after & they were very neat & tidy, the team members mixed around with the girls & distributed gifts & lunch packets among them.

Ms Roziba Salim a member of the Area Voluntary Management Committee says, “It’s a very tough & a responsible job to look after these girls, a person needs to have a lot of apathy & tolerance to handle these girls. We have a capacity to accommodate 10 girls & we are running with full capacity with a waiting list to almost 40 plus, parents on waiting list get very disappointed, but what could we do, nor we have housing capacity nor the funds to expand any further."
