A social visit to Amin Muhammad having Paraplegic - Spinal Cord Injury at his foster home

President of Awareness Voluntary Organization Noorudin.S.Bhamani (PWD), along with a few Committee Members paid a social visit to Amin Muhammud aged 13, a resident of Rural Sindh, who had met with an accident when a sliding wall collapsed on his neck & back which made him totally paralyzed from waist downwards.
Amin Muhammad's family is very poor, but a quench to find a cure for their son came to Karachi, after 2 yrs years in sheer agony & running from pillar to post to many hospitals & therapy centers they had almost given up when Mr Amin Merchant & his team of Community Service Volunteers involved in many Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Concept ventures came to know about the case of Amin Muhammad.

The first step taken by Mr Amin Merchant & his team of Community Service Volunteers was to place him in a foster home in a CBR Senior Citizen Hostel, make him mobile through an Electric Wheelchair, start his Physical Therapy & Education.

Mr. Amin Merchant & his team of Community Service Volunteers has taken Amin Muhammad's case to their highest priority & are very hopeful that within the next 2 yrs they will rehabilitate Amin Muhammad to such a state that he will be able to lead a normal & inclusive life in mainstream society.

The team of Awareness Voluntary Organization wishes them success in this noble venture.

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)

Spinal cord injuries usually begin with a blow that fractures or dislocates your vertebrae, the bone disks that make up your spine. Most injuries don't sever your spinal cord. Instead, they cause damage when pieces of vertebrae tear into cord tissue or press down on the nerve parts that carry signals. In a complete spinal cord injury, the cord can't relay messages below the level of the injury. As a result, you are paralyzed below the level of injury. In an incomplete injury, you have some movement and sensation below the injury.

A spinal cord injury is a medical emergency. Immediate treatment can reduce long-term effects. Later treatment usually includes medicine and rehabilitation therapy.
