Awareness Voluntary Organization, Project: Awareness Pakistan conducted a ‘Discussion Session 1 ‘Views of PWD’s, Head of DPO’s & Volunteers’ on ‘Problems faced by Persons with Disabilities due to Barriers to Accessibility’ of the series of ‘Discussion Sessions’ on ‘Cost-Effective Accessibility on Existing Structures and Approaches for Inclusive and Accessible Development for Persons with Disabilities’ on, Saturday 16th October, 2010, 3.30pm sharp, at the office of Awareness Voluntary Organization.

Many Heads of Disabled People’s Organizations, Persons with Disabilities along with their attendants & Volunteers attend this ‘Discussion Session - 1’ & expressed their views & suggestion on ‘Problems faced by Persons with Disabilities due to Barriers to Accessibility’

This ‘Discussion Session - 1’ gave way to a concrete platform to promote greater awareness of environmental accessibility and advancement of Persons with Disabilities in the context of development, and identify innovative and cost-effective approaches to accessibility in the existing structures and physical environment as means to further inclusive processes of development. This ‘Discussion Session - 1’ also paved ways on how to ensure cost-effective approaches to accessibility for Persons with Disabilities in existing structures. This ‘Discussion Session - 1’ enhanced the promotion of advocacy for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities to Accessibility and to work in an environment that is both accessible and accepting in Rights Based Approach.

At the conclusion of the ‘Discussion Session - 1’ a number of united implementation strategies were agreed by all participants, which will be put forward in our next ‘Discussion Session - 2’ ‘Views of Parents, Care-Takers, Relatives & Friends’ on ‘Problems faced by Persons with Disabilities due to Barriers to Accessibility’ of the series of ‘Discussion Sessions’ on ‘Cost-Effective Accessibility on Existing Structures and Approaches for Inclusive and Accessible Development for Persons with Disabilities’

This ‘Discussion Session - 1’ was an invaluable opportunity for DPO Heads, Persons with Disabilities & Volunteers working for the Disability Movement to discuss and formulate ways that will allow Persons with Disabilities to make Karachi fully accessible.
