SUCCESS STORY OF MUHAMMAD AZIM-A PERSON WITH MULTIPLE SEVERE DISABILITY
A wheelchair is a part of Muhammad Azim, a Person with Multiple Severe Disabilities since birth. As being from a low economical background family. He used to crawl in his house & was carried to school & fulfill his personal needs in the arms of his parents. He completed his grade 12 schooling (Inter) in the same condition, or by using worn out & discarded wheelchair given by people for his mobility, as being of high-esteem & dignity his started to search for an organization for Persons with Disabilities from where he can avail a good condition wheelchair. His efforts were fruitful as he was given a manual wheelchair by an organization.
As being a Person with Multiple Severe Disabilities with a missing hand & the other hand short & twisted – 1 short leg & the other leg twisted, it was impossible to move the wheelchair all by himself. But with the support of his friends he started going to programs of Disabled People & all over in his locality. As a young man with dignity he found a job as a freelancer in a magazine where he was provided with transport & personal attendant to take him around to various corporate sectors & business houses to acquire advertisements for the magazine.
A Disability Movement leader a Person with Severe Disability himself who was visiting Pakistan met Muhammad Azim, he was very impressed by the young man’s courage, dignity & high spirit, while leaving Pakistan he gifted Muhammad Azim his own Electric Wheelchair. Muhammad Azim was know tottally independently mobile, he could easily control the electric wheelchair with his twisted short hand.
Muhammad Azim was flying high, no chain could bound him back, after returning from work he used to wonder all around his locality & engage in some tidbits trading as commission agent. He had established a sustainable extra income to contribute in his low economical household income. This went on for almost more than 3 years.
Now the electric wheelchair is almost broken down & needs replacement of certain spare parts along with external parts & both the batteries. To replace this imported spare parts is very expensive because they have to be imported, as there are a few technician availble to repair imported electric wheelchair, so the labour charges are also very high. Buying new or importing electric wheelchair is out of question as it cost almost Rs.5 lacs. Muhammad Azim had approached many Disabled People Organization, but they refused his application with a true reason, that the amount require is very high & many Persons with Disabilities could be provided wheelchairs for mobility in this much amount.
Now, once again Muhammad Azim sits at his doorstep with lost hopes & scattered dreams awaiting for some miracle to happen, his eyes are eagerly glued at the start of his bylane awaiting that somebody will come to his aid to regain his Mobility, Dignity, Self-Esteem & make him self-income generating person once again by overhauling his worn out electric wheelchair.
