Empower Us – Support Our Employment Issue

Empower Us – Support Our Employment Issue

Dear Leaders of the Chambers of Commerce, Corporate Sectors, Multi – Nationals, Banks, Semi – Government Sectors, Industries, Government Departments & Agencies.

I have dedicated 15 years of my life knocking on the doors of almost every government & business community, but have not been able to convince the business community nor the government agencies for employing Persons with Disabilities in the economical workforce under the strict 2% quota implementation.”

Becoming gainfully employed gives Persons with Disabilities the economic means to become more fully integrated into our mainstream society, and enhances one's sense of dignity, By employing Persons with Disabilities in your workforce you can help change the social attitudes that continue to stand in the way of full Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Mainstream Society. Of equal importance is the Valuing Persons with Disabilities principle of ‘Nothing about Us without Us’. The views of Persons with Disabilities, and their families and care - takers, must be at the heart of the construction and deliverance of your Corporate Social Responsibilities & Social Obligations and fulfilling government laws in terms of disabilities focus or employment settings, if there was ever a time we needed to rise to the occasion of our own individual and professional interests, it is now.

With that in mind I make an appeal to each of you to renew your commitment to your Corporate Social Responsibilities & Social Obligations and to the principles of concern for the empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. It is only by remembering the principles of dedication to the individual empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, and the integrity and quality of the services which serve them, that we can bridge our differences and again work with one voice to the purpose that bind us all. Remember all of us can artificially create differences among us that lead to a misunderstanding of others who may in fact have similar principles and interests. Small Business Administration needs to aggressively support the outreach effort, they could reach out to a lot of minorities, and do not reach out to this particular Disabled Community, if taken into account Disabled Community is the largest minority, consisting of almost 8% to 9% (according to a survey by World Bank in early 2000s’) of the total population of Pakistan, more than the population of FATA & Balochistan put together and I think that’s a mistake to deprive them from their Basic Fundamental Rights & isolate them.

I once again request you to please employ more Persons with Disabilities to find increased opportunities to enter the workforce, and abide by the 2% quota enforced by the government strictly.
