Program Report

An Inclusive Get-Together & Dinner  organized by Support Trust as a gesture of Social Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Mainstream Society on 24 November, 2010, at Beach Luxury Hotel.

Noorudin.S.Bhamani (PWD) Disabilities Rights Activist, President Awareness Voluntary Organization & President World Association of Persons with Disabilities (Pakistan Chapter) was invited as one of the speakers at this Inclusive Get-Together.

The attendees of this Inclusive Get-Together were Persons with Disabilities, their Care-Takers, Representatiives of Special Schools & Disabled People's Organizations (DPO's), Special Educators & Therapists, Television Personalities &  Guests who support the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in Mainstream of Society.

Mr Aanik, the Renowned TV Anchor was the Master of Ceremonies.

The Program started by recitation of Holy Tilawat by a Person with Disability.

Chairman of the Support Trust Mr Shabbar Zaidi  in his inauguraul speech welcomed the guests & conveyed the mission of Support Trust to focous the hidden abilities of Persons with Disabilities & Disabled People's Organizations (DPO's) working with sincerity for the Human & Economical Development of Persons with Disabilities through the Electronic & Print Media, so that it reaches the general public which will create an Environment of Acceptence for Persons with Disabilities. Further he said that nor we are a funding agency nor we will raise fund for our Support Trust through Persons with Disabilities. It is the mission of Support Trust to be a bridge between Persons with Disabilities & the bariers they face in achieving their Basic Fundamental Human Rights. 

Zainab a young Visually Impaired lady  expressed the positive attitude & gesture of Acceptence by SUIT Karachi & praised them that they never made her feel that she had a Disability.

Adnan having Physical Disabilities  expressed grievances faced by Persons with Muscular Dystrophy in their day to day survival, other Persons with Physical Disabilities can move around with Assistive equipment, but persons having Muscular Dystrophy lose their grip day by day & at last are confined to bed & cannot survive without a Personal Attendant.

Mr Muhammad Hussien  Visually Impaired & a prominent leader of the Blind Community talked about the existing laws which are non -enforceable, Socially Obligatory, lenient  & voilators cannot be punished by the law. He asked the government to issue an ordinance which makes it mandatory & give representation in the Assemblies  to Persons with Disabilities.   

 

Ms Saira Salim Visually Impaired has completed her M.Phil in Special Education, spoke about the bariers which she had to face & her experience when she had gone to attend a conference in India. 

Noorudin.S.Bhamani (PWD) Disabilities Rights Activist requested the society to give Persons with Disabilities their own IDENTITY, stop calling them 'MAZOOR LANGRA' or 'MAZOOR LANGRE' KI WIFE, MOTHER or SISTER, the same goes with all the other Disability. Speaking about Human Rights Law & Disability Policy, NSB said, bringing a change is only possible if all People's Representatives take a united stand & boycott to attend the sessions till Representative of the Disabled Community are not selected from Persons with Disabilities in all the Assemblies.

Janab Javed Mir the Renowned Composer & Musician, Children from a Special School & Persons with Disabilities, entertaining the crowd with songs.

Ms Kishwer Zehra (MNA) a trustee of Support Trust & above all A RAISING HOPE for Persons with Disabilities, insist that she will take the raised voices of Persons with Disabilities to the National Assembly. She would try her level best with support from like minded MNA's in the National Assembly to make the Policy Makers pass a Basic Human Rights bill which will be favourable for Persons with Disabilities to live a life full of Dignity & Self-Esteem.

 A TOKEN OF APPRECIATION made by a Person with Disability (only one hand) was presented to the Chairman & Trustees of Support Trust for their Selfless support to the Disabled Community by Shamira.N.Bhanani on behalf of Awareness Voluntary Organization, Project: Awareness Pakistan. 

Mr Shakeel Ahmed Khan a favourite of many Disabled People's Organizations & Special Schools & a Personality with an always ready to help attitude for a cause to support the Disability movement, spoke about the Social Obligations & Positive Attitude of the society towards the Disabled Community. He also stressed the need to introduced a Basic Special Education Course in the shool curriculum, so the future generation could get basic knowledge of various Disabilities, which will create a stronger mutual understanding between the Able-Bodied & Persons with Disabilities.

Mr Nusrat one of the Trustees of Support Trust conveyed a vote of thanks to the attendees at the conclusion of the program & invited them to dinner.
