We work only in the jurisdiction of CDG Karachi, from our single room office in partnership with people with diverse section of the Society, Government Agencies and NGO’s to maximize the potential of deprived Persons with Disabilities in the society and to help them to be self-reliant and independent. Noorudin.S.Bhamani (Disabilities Rights Activist) 53yrs and has MUSCULAR DYSTROPHY (1 in every 2 Million) daiginised since the last 39yrs, and totally confined to bed since the last 15yrs, He uses a mobile stretcher for mobility and ambulance provided by for transportation. He works towards the integration of deprived Persons with Disabilities of the society into Mainstream Society. Through programs that encompass Rehabilitation, Employment, Training, Education, Self-Emloyment through Micro Finance, Consultation and Assessment in Assistive Technology, Equality, Social Inclusion, and Social Service Support, with a Right Based Approach. He works in partnership with diverse section of the Society, Social Supporters and NGO’s to maximize the potential of the deprieved section of the society and to help them to be self-reliant and independent. He and his team of ‘Community Service Volunteers’ create Awareness about Human Development & Empowerment of the Deprived Section within the society and promote volunteerism in serving humanity. His primary objective is to change peoples’ outlook towards the deprieved section of the society and to bring about a positive mind-set and a sphere of mutual understanding among the general public and ignate a surge of inclination of moral obligation towards the Human Development & Empowerment of the Deprived Section within the society.

Awareness Pakistan (A Project of Awareness Voluntary Organization) was founded in 2000, by Noorudin.S.Bhamani (Disabilities Rights Activist) a Person with Severe Disabilities himself and registered in 2007 with the aim of creating Awareness about Disabilities within the society. Our founder’s primary objective is to change peoples’ outlook towards disability and to bring about a positive mind-set, and a sphere of mutual understanding between the general public and Persons with Disabilities. Our team of truly committed and devoted Community Service Volunteers, has come a long way since its establishment in 2000.Practically all those involved with Awareness Pakistan are not only true workers of the society, but they have chosen this difficult path on their own to stand against the discrimination and exclusion of Persons with Disabilities from the mainstream of society. This team of ‘Community Service Volunteers’ create Awareness for the Rehabilitation, Employment, Mobility, Training, Education, Independent Living Concept, Consultation and Assessment in Assistive Technology, Day Care, Equality, Justice, Dignity and Social Inclusion, with a Right Based Approach and welfare of Persons with Disabilities, not only Karachi but also all over Pakistan. We work in partnership with people with all aspects of Disabilities, Special Educators and NGO’s to maximize the potential of the Persons with Disabilities and to help them to be self-reliant and independent. We create Awareness about disabilities within the society.
The Objectives of Awareness Pakistan
1.Enhancing Awareness of the accessibility needs of Persons with Disabilities.
2.Creating Awareness of a Disabled friendly Environment through Universal Design to enable a wide spectrum of Persons with Disabilities to access Public Facilities Independently.
3.Providing experiential learning for City Planners, Designers, Developers and Managers so that they can make improvements to the shopping malls/restaurants/park/banks/ connectors, road crossing.
4.Promoting Equality and Social Inclusion through Awareness and Advocacy.
5.Promoting Inclusive Education & Independent Living Concept.
6.Creating Awareness on Economical Empowerment through fixed Employment Quota reserved for Persons with Disabilities.
7.Creating Awareness on Soft Skill Development for Decent Employment Opportunities.
8.Self –Employment and Mobility through Micro Finance.
9.Conducting Workshops & Seminars.
10.Public Awareness through Open Lectures & Inclusive Event Celebration.
Free Awareness Lecture Campaigns
Most of the time, in community planning efforts, provision of space and facilities is usually based on the assumption that everyone has similar mobility needs and options. Very often, these assumptions result in excluding Persons with Disabilities and the elderly from many activities within the community.
The Awareness Campaign promote the acceptance and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities within our community. The Practical Lecture Session are conducted in City District Karachi, where the participants are given opportunities to simulate Persons with Diverse Disabilities and "test out" the Disabled User-Friendliness of shopping mall/restaurant/connector/banks especially at the points such as road crossings, footbridges etc.
The group discussion at these Practical Lecture Sessions of Awareness Campaign provides the participants a platform for reflecting and sharing their personal experiences, particularly when they role-play with people with different disabilities. At the end of these Awareness Campaign’s Practical Lecture Sessions, the participants gain an Awareness of the issues faced by Persons with Diverse Disabilities, and an understanding of the importance of Independent Living, Universal Design Disabled-Friendly Facilities that can benefit the elderly, as well as those who have a permanent or temporary disability. There are now plans to review and evaluate the Shopping Malls – Restaurants - Banks facilities for further improvements.
Awareness Pakistan conducts these Practical Lecture Sessions in Universities, Schools, Public Places, and Community Centers on Awareness and the social obligation of the General Public, Business Community and the Government towards the Disabled Community.
Free Lectures on different types of Disabilities
The Lectures educates the Care-givers, Parents, Special School Teachers, Disability Institutional Heads, NGO’s, Community Leaders and Community Support Volunteers on different types of disabilities, Early Intervention, Symptoms, and handy tips. Speakers at the Seminars consist of Special Educators, Visiting Foreign Experts, University Professors, and Doctor related to the Disability Issue. These lectures generate new ideas and technology to tackle the Disability issue to the participants.

With the changing role of women worldwide women in developing countries also started embracing new roles. Pakistani women are not an exception to this phenomenon. Striking changes in the position of women are taking place in our society. The modern world is bringing about rapid social changes in Pakistan and the traditional social set up is giving way to new order. These changes have also brought a new sense of liberty, hence bringing changes in day to day working pattern and life style of the Pakistani women.
Most of the National & International NGO’s and Funding Agency have focused on the suffering and discrimination faced by the Rural Women, overlooking the Uneducated, deprived & Low Economical Background Urban Women, who have to face humiliation & discrimination day in & day out, and is destined by the society for the only task ‘HOUSE-MAID’ brushing aside their many other talents Taking this problem into consideration Awareness Pakistan has introduced The Urban Women an Experimental Pilot Vocational & Skill Development Program for the Socio – Economical Upliftment & Human Development of these Uneducated, deprived & Low Economical Background Urban Women.
We provide Vocational Training & Skill Development training to these women so that they can work from their house instead of being humiliated by going door to door as ‘HOUSE MAID’ to earn a living.

This is a Community Based Experimental Pilot Program, introduced in one locality of Karachi. If the success results are around 50%, we will expand this program all over Karachi.

The causes of these disabilities are different disease, and accidents. In many cases, they are the members of loving families... but families who are simply too poor to afford the needed equipment. A simple wheelchair can cost as much as one month’s salary.

Awareness Documentary
Awareness Pakistan has produce ‘Awareness’ An Awareness documentary on Disabilities and the Disabled of Pakistan, in order to continue our goal of inspiring other Person with Disabilities to pursue their dream. So often in this world a Persons with Disabilities will be told that they cannot make it as a normal person. They can become discouraged and let go of their vision. With this documentary, we wish to give these people the catalyst to challenge those voices, and the encouragement to continue along the path towards their dreams. Rather than mournful, the documentary is directed to be uplifting, focusing on the positive legacy it will focus a message of the importance of living life to the full and doing something creative each and every day. That is how every disabled would want it to be. The CD is distributed free among the general public.

Considering this situation Awareness Voluntary Organization has published COLOURLESS EXISTENCE (An Awareness Bulletin) The Awareness about Disability Issue in Pakistan in this bulletin will play a vital role in clearing the misconception from both, Persons with Disability as well as the General Public of false assumption of each other and an Inclusive Society will start to emerge. Disbursement of cash, rations, clothing only on occasions and only if some donors insists to donate and distribute it by their self or if funds are available. As per our vision 'I WILL WORK NOT BEG' We do not give monthly Stipend or allowances for medicines, as for some devesering, profound or severe case of Disability, we refer them to some stable donors (if available) or organizations involved in this type of activities, who could support them in the long run and the Persons with Disabilities or their families do not have to face humilation by going door to door for help. We only provide Wheel Chairs, Crutches, Walking Sticks, Tri-cycles, Self employment cycles, (Modified Tri-Motor Cycle rickshaws on very easy installment), Micro – Finance (Small Amount) loans for Self employment, Sewing machines, In-House shops for Persons with Severe Disability, Educational placement duly arranged by Sponsors, Well – Wishers, Supporting Corporate Partners and Philanthropist for the needy Persons with Disabilities so they could move around in society with Dignity & Self-Esteem..

Our aim is to support important and urgent work in cases where local financial, material, and personal means are not sufficient. Beside the voluntary work that is of benefit to the public, we want to bring young & old people from all walks of life as well as involve Corporate Social Responsibility section from Corporate & Multi-National sectors together and offer them the chance to mix up with the deprived & low economical background people from our society, and learn of their problems. Tolerance, openness, and living together in solidarity should not remain empty words. What the volunteers learn ...is that volunteers are open-minded, enterprising and tolerant. 'Community Service Volunteers' of Awareness Voluntary Organization are the strength & work force of our organization. We cannot exist without them. Volunteerism, in its conceptual form, includes the individual or collective efforts of willing individuals, known as volunteers, at Awareness Voluntary Organization, we give them a chance to enhance their skills to work toward the betterment of oneself, other individuals, communities, and/or society. In Islam there is a strong ethic of volunteerism. As Pakistanis, we have a long tradition of volunteering to achieve our social goals, mobilizing enormous energy for the common good. Volunteers supply the human energy that drives many thousands of organizations and groups across Pakistan. Some have chosen to become involved so they can provide a needed service, solve a problem or advance a worthy cause. Volunteers make contacts, learn skills, gain work experience, build self-esteem, improve their health, and sometimes turn their lives around through volunteer work.
Volunteers don't work for money; they work for less tangible but equally important forms of remuneration such as satisfaction, appreciation and the opportunity to build skills. Volunteers are seeking increasingly meaningful responsibilities and interesting tasks, and the community must find ways to meet their needs.
