'Nothing about Us, Without Us'

The Disabled Community of Pakistan
ALIVE – ACTIVE - INVOLVED

Pakistan has seen a rising progress in Disability Activism in the present decade. A number of seasoned Disability Rights Activists have flourished in this decade and are doing a marvelous job in taking the Disability Rights Movement forward.
Enormous amount of motives and decisive reflections are taking place within the Disabled Community on vital issues relating to Rights Based Human Rights. Mobility, Accessibility, Decent Employment Opportunities, Segregated Schools, Inclusive Education, Community Based Rehabilitation, Skill Development Centers, Job Quota & Equal Employment Opportunities are a few debates that are current issues in the Disability Movement.

People with Disabilities insist that in the last 6 decades the Governmental Agencies and Private Organizations working for People with Disabilities have moved in a Donkey Cart pace for the Disability Cause, and have achieved no adequate result, due to their practical inexperience of the Discrimination and Humiliation People with Disabilities’ have to face in their day to day survival of practical life. People with Disabilities uphold the view that 100 % leadership, control, and management of disability related issues must rest with People with Disabilities who know how they survive in spite of so many barriers in their day to day life.  People with Disabilities subscribe to the principle that ‘Only the Wearer knows where the Shoe Pinches', or for that matter, 'Nothing about Us, Without Us'. They demand that, they are capable and can represent their Disabled Community, put their self forward, can think, speak, decide, and act for the Disabled Community, and they do not need any mouthpiece to speak for them.
